General Information

Student and employee safety and security is a primary focus of the Merrimack Valley School District. All Merrimack Valley schools have video surveillance cameras on the premises. These cameras provide our schools with the ability to help secure our campuses and learning environments. Should you have specific questions regarding this video surveillance, please contact the principal.

I Love to Read Month

“I Love to Read” Month, Salisbury Elementary School

February 2019

February 1, 2019

Dear Parents,

“I Love to Read” Month is coming up, and the children are looking forward to another exciting time! Please note the calendar below, and please help to support the activities. Here is a little extra information for some of them.

Wear Print Days: These days are for children to wear hats, sweatshirts, shirts, or buttons related to the theme. All clothing, though, must be appropriate for school and have words or letters on them.

Book Fair Week is 11th-15th: Read Alouds with Mr. Johnson on Tuesday, February 12th after shopping the Book Fair from 4pm to 6pm. Special Bedtime stories before heading home to dinner and bed in the Art Room.

Stuffed Animal and Stuffy Sleepover Day: Those children who are interested can bring a stuffed animal to read to at school, and then leave that animal at school for the night. The thrill? Arriving at school the next day and seeing what the stuffed animals have been doing overnight at school. In the past, they have been caught reading books, writing stories, or playing games.

Golden Ticket: The goal is to complete 5 activities in a row, up, down, or diagonally, on the Golden Ticket, at home. Cross off the blocks as needed. When your child has completed the card, please return the card to school. Those children who complete their cards will be presented with a special read-aloud story on the last day of “I Love to Read” month.

Fisher Cats Reading Challenge: Please remember to continue working on the Fisher Cats Reading Challenge.

“I Love to Read” month can become one of the most exciting times of the school year. Your help at home will ensure success at school. Thank you, in advance, for your support at home.

Yours in Reading,

Mr. Johnson

Blizard Bag Letter

Hello SES Families,

During the course of a typical New England winter, inclement weather occasionally necessitates the cancellation of school. This year the Merrimack Valley School District will be implementing three Blizzard Bag Days in place of a traditional Snow Day. The goal of a Blizzard Bag Day is to minimize disruption to the continuity of learning without extending the school year. On Friday, November 16th, elementary students will bring home their first blizzard bag assignment in preparation for the change of the seasons. Families will be notified of a Blizzard Bag Day via the Alma.  Teachers will be available for support on Blizzard Bag Days through email between the hours of 8:00am - 12:00pm. Assigned work should be returned to classroom teachers the day after a Blizzard Bag Day.

A few things to keep in mind as we navigate this alternative learning opportunity:

  • Only three days will be designated Blizzard Bag Days, and it may or may not be the first day on which school is closed. Be sure to listen to the recorded message you receive notifying you of the cancelation for this information.

  • Your child’s first Blizzard Bag assignment will be sent home in a folder, bag or envelope on November 16th.

  • Copies of all Blizzard Bag assignments can be found on the SES website under the “Blizzard Bag” tab at the top of the web page.

  • Blizzard Bag assignments can be turned in at any point in time following their distribution, up until two school days following the designated Blizzard Bag Day.

  • In order for these days to count in lieu of additional days at the end of the school year, 80% of students within the district will need to participate.

  • Parents are invited and encouraged to support their students in completing the Blizzard Bag assignments. It is suggested that you review the information included in your student’s “bag” in advance to ensure clarity in the expectations.

  • Feel free to contact teachers with any questions you may have. Staff will be available for support on the designated days!

Our primary goal remains ensuring the academic well being of our students. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
